Location
This image was taken in Phoenix Arizona. On this day my friends and I were searching for foreclosed homes with empty pools in the valley. We do a service by removing green mosquito infested water from pools before we skate them. We happened upon this particular pool that was in an abandoned apartment complex, in the middle of being demoed.Time
This image is in my top five favories as far as my skateboard photography goes. Nothing was planed, purely random. It was late afternoon and the sun was starting to go down.Lighting
I love images with sun flares and backlighting from the sun. With there being no deck on the pool and only dirt it made for a more dramatic image. I also used a fill flash to keep Josh from being under exposed.Equipment
I used a Canon T2i, Canon EF-S 10-22mm 1:3.5-4.5 USM, Canon Speedlite 430 EXII, and a Canon shoe cord.Inspiration
We were just looking for empty pools to skate and at the same time trying to get some new photos. The position of the sun with the mixture of the dirt/broken edge was simply perfect in my mind.Editing
I used Lightroom to enhance the colors and expose Josh a bit more, because my fill flash didn't do quite the job I wanted it to do.In my camera bag
I always have my Canon T2i. The kit lenses that came with it. 18-55mm, 55-250mm, and my 10-22mm. Canon Speedlite 430EXII, Shoe cable and an off brand wireless trigger. A cheapo tri-pod, and a few filters.Feedback
Though I've been shooting photos (mostly for enjoyment) since 2011, I am by no means a pro. My best advice as a self taught photographer would be to keep shooting. Shoot everything, and shoot it multiple times with different settings. The more you do that, the better you'll get. Also take some time to learn a processing program like Lightroom. Always shoot in Raw format, and never be afraid of the camera.
