This photo comes from a lake in North Cascades National Park. It is a remote and rugged area, but is also filled with immense scenery (its nickname is the American Alps). The highway is shut down in winter due to high avalanche danger, so I wanted to make sure and get up there while I could (this photo was taken 11-22-13). At over a mile high, this lake was well frozen over, and temperatures were in the teens. There was zero wind, and it was very eerie hearing no sound whatsoever in the dead of night. This is one shot (not stacked images); towards the end of the shot the moon began to rise, illuminating just the tops of the distant peaks.
