Behind The Lens
Location
I was visiting my daughter who rented a house on this river in Exeter, Rhode Island. In the summer they would swim and kayak on the river. Her boyfriend built this pier for the homeowners next door!Time
It was a crisp early morning last September. You could feel the change of season coming, the leaves were just starting to change color! I remember seeing my breath, and my hands were cold, I thought it would've been nice to have a pair of gloves on!Lighting
I knew I wanted the reflection of the trees in the water with early morning light, before the sun would start casting shadows on everything! The lighting was perfect for what my mind's eye was seeing that morning. I really love this shot, it will always reming me of my daughter in Rhode Island!Equipment
A Canon 7D, 18-135mm, 3.5-5.6 IS. The settings were 1/125, f/6.7, ISO 250. I did not use a tripod or flash.Inspiration
I wanted to capture the tranquility and restful nature of just sitting and being quite in this environment.Editing
I corrected the highlights and shadows in Lightroom 5. I also bumped up the clarity. In my camera bag
I normally shoot with this lens, but I've just purchased a wide angle 10-22mm that I love using as well!Feedback
I think if I shot this a 1/2 hour earlier it would have had more of the morning glow! The perspective of a shot like this is important, I was on my knees so that I could get the rocks in the foreground for a better composition!
