I took this photo while walking through the gardens of a museum in Cancun. Photography is a hobby for me and I never know what will catch my eye.Time
It was a pretty bright & sunny afternoon, not exactly that golden hour around sunrise & sunset.Lighting
I liked how the bright sun and areas of shade mingled on different sections of the plant and highlighted all those folds which looked architectural to me.Equipment
I had my full backpack with my DSLRs & lenses in a museum locker and only took my Olympus Tough P&S into the garden with me. Aside from underwater that is also my 'just in case I see something' camera that is always with me. It has a macro option which is what I used for this shot.Inspiration
Really everything about the way this plant looked with all those folds or creases, the way the sun highlighted the center while the shade stayed more on the outer area. It all drew my eye as soon as I saw it.Editing
No, and other than cropping I really don't do any post processing. I like the act of shooting the photo, what lens to use, camera settings, the position I'm in.In my camera bag
The aforementioned Olympus, the Canon Mark 5 II and III D, 100 macro lens, 16-35 wide angle, 100-400 telephoto, at times my Canon 40D to get that extra distance. Large trash bags as a groundcover, extra batteries, memory cards. I don't carry a tripod because I am usually somewhere in the woods and on the move. I prefer to utilize what nature has to offer if I need that stability. I'm sure I'very left something out since I'm used to have just about everything in that backpack.Feedback
I don't really have any specific technical advice. I would suggest to always keep your eyes and your mind open. You never know what you'll come across in your 'travels'. I almost skipped that garden because it was so very bright outside and very hot, of course. I didn't expect much but that garden turned out to be far better than the museum. I saw many very interesting plants, flowers, etc all of which I nearly missed. Also, I was sorry that my pack was in the locker and I was unable to retrieve it and go back into the garden but at least had my P&S. Really, just always be ready to shoot, at least with a 'just in case' camera. You never know what you might miss otherwise.
