Behind The Lens

Location

I took this phot at The Calgary Zoo

Time

Early afternoon in July

Lighting

This beautiful tiger was enjoying the day walking around in his enclosure. He decided it was time to cool off and entered the water. I followed him for quite some time. He finally noticed me and decided to look up. I was able to crouch down and took the shot. The light was just right, not directly overhead, but enough to capture the reflection.

Equipment

Canon 5dmk3, 70-200 2.8 l series lens

Inspiration

I visit the zoo quite often. The tigers are always beautiful subjects. To capture them moving around, particularly in the summer is such a treat.

Editing

I use lr and ps. This photo was cropped and color slightly adjusted. levels was used.

In my camera bag

Depending on where I am going depends on what I carry. For the zoo I would normally carry a 70-200 and a 150 - 600. My favorite walk around is a 24-105 I also usually have my 40mm pancake lens as it is the only lens which will allow me some macro Travelling on vacation I also carry a 16-35 lens In the studio I use a 70-200,24-105, and a 50mm 1.2

Feedback

Timing along with some luck is what counts. You will not always get the photo you want, but persistence and patience pay off
