Location
This is a local windmill. It's lit from the other side and, as a self taught photographer, this was my first attempt at light paintingTime
It was a really cold evening, around 8pm. A lovely old lady who's house adjoins the property, invited my partner and I in. She has a little gate that allows her access to the property and we were in there a good couple of hours!Lighting
Lit from the other side by bright halogen lights, I used a million candle lamp to paint this sideEquipment
Taken with a Canon 7D with a 10-20mm Canon lens. No flash on a 30 second exposureInspiration
My partner really wanted an image of the mill for a project of his...I tagged along to learn a bit about light paintingEditing
I used a detail extractor to get a little more detail and added a little more tonal contrast. Nothing much.In my camera bag
I now shoot with a Canon 7D mark 2. I generally go everywhere with my 70-300mm L series, 24-105mm L series and my wide angle. I've recently invested in a Sigma 105mm macroFeedback
Play around! I must have taken around 20 images that evening. I've been asked since what my settings were but, to be honest, the settings are worthless. On another evening with the same set up, the settings could be totally different!
