Behind The Lens

Location

I really wanted to photograph a watermill and we ended up here at Coggleasford Mill. This is the upstairs of the mill

Time

It was a proper autumnal Novemeber day, around 2pm.

Lighting

The lighting is as it is in situ, no flash was used and very little naturL light was available. However, being, essentially, a museum, there were lots of bright spotlights lighting up the features

Equipment

Shot with a Canon 7d and a newly purchased canon 10-18mm

Inspiration

I loved how angular the lines were and the way that the shadows added to them. I never intended for the image to be black and white as it's not normally my thing but this really worked

Editing

I actually made this black and white so that I could use it for a black and white challenge that a friend had set me. I edited using Nik Color effects first, drawing out some detail and contrast and the applied a silver effects filter to create the black and white

In my camera bag

I never go anywhere without my 24-105 L series. I shoot with a canon 7d and have upgraded to the Mark 2 since this image was taken. I don't own a flash gun, preferring to work with the light available to me.

Feedback

Play around. I'm no professional and the notion of setting my camera up and getting the right image first shot is completely alien to me!
