Location
I took this in the historic Bailgate area of Lincoln. I live not far away and it had started snowing only an hour or so before this was taken.Time
I remember it was a real cold night, just after Christmas, around 8 in the evening. I went with my the fiance (it's ok...he's now my husband!) in the car despite it not being far!! We had a right battle to keep the snow from our lenses!!Lighting
This is just naturally lit - no flash, no extra lighting, just exactly as it was that snowy eveningEquipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D mk2 with a Canon 24-105 L series lens. Handheld. No flash, no tripod!Inspiration
We lived so close to this historic area of Lincoln and it really is picture postcard beautiful. I'd always wanted to photograph it in the snow but that's easier said than done in England. That night we took our chances and went for it. I was really after the Cathedral in all it's splendor in the snow and I did get some but this - this just amused me. If I'm really honest I felt sorry for the poor person who had to ride home on it!!Editing
This didn'tt take much... a white balance adjustment and some noise reductionIn my camera bag
I'm an all eventualities type of girl. I wouldn't say I travel light! I always have my 24-105 on the front of my 7D Mk2 but then I also take my 70-300mm L series and my 10-18mm with me too. I've not long added my Sigma 105mm macro just in case! I have a Yongnuo flash and my manfrotto tripod and a screw on polariser, not to mention the ND10Feedback
Wrap us warm and protect your kit. These sorts of images can't be staged...it really was a right time right place sort of photo! It made me smile and I always like to think that if something makes me smiles it's worth capturing for someone else to smile at too! So stay alert and look everywhere - I really didn't set out to photograph this!
