This is my absolute favourite photo of all time, I have a great big 36 x 24 canvas of this picture hanging in my kitchen and several different size canvasses for sale. This picture was taken in Vernon, B.C. Canada at a retreat centre, just along a beautiful walking path. Upon opening your email, I just happen to be at that very same retreat centre again, unfortunately due to the time of the year, this little waterfall was all dried up. Hoping to be back here again in the future, preferably a little earlier in the summer season.Time
This picture was taken in the afternoon which was very sunny, but due to the path being covered in a thick forest canopy, it allowed for some incredible light and shadows.Lighting
The sun came filtering through openings in the forst canopy, allowing for some fantastic highlights.Equipment
This was shot with a canon 70D, on tripod, no flash just natural light.Inspiration
I absolutely love being in nature and there is just something just so amazing, exciting, and refreshing about being in the forest and stumbling across a brook such as this. It triggers all your senses, the sound of the rushing water, the fresh forest pine scent, the cool touch of the shade and moss. Its just such an incredible experience. It is places like this that make me feel cradled in he cleft of the rock, safe and secure in God's hand.Editing
I didn't change this picture too much as far as post processing goes, I added a bit of an HDR effect, just to bring out the shadows and tone. Which allowed the highlight lights to come pouring forth. In my camera bag
My camera is a Canon 70D, hoping to upgrade soon, my main lense is the Canon 24- 105. I have several other lenses, two of which also come with me constantly, the Canon 50 mm and my Sigma 150-500mm for wildlife shots.Feedback
The only advice I can give is get out there into nature, there is no better canvas. Get to know how to operate your camera on manual, understand your settings and especially your exposure, and practice, practice, practice. Practice is your only way of learning how to get these shots, and don't be afraid to ask questions from other photographers. Sometimes, photographers are afraid to give away their secrets, but it never hurts to ask, there are many photographers out there that want help you out.
