Behind The Lens

Location

I took the picture in Wellington, ON. The small town is on the shore of Lake Ontario.

Time

It was taken at nearly high noon or very early afternoon. I'd been watching the formation of it for about half-an-hour before I could get to a place with an unfettered view of what is seen in the pic.

Lighting

The lighting speaks for itself.

Equipment

Nikon 5200 with Rokinnon 14mm 2.8.

Inspiration

I've never seen a sundog before.

Editing

Yes, though not much. I try to stay within a 20 percentile shift most of the time. Most of my efforts were directed towards colour saturation.

In my camera bag

One camera body Nikon 5200. The Rokinnon 14mm 2.8. Kit lens 18-55mm. 55-300mm zoom. 50mm portrait. Nikon 910 speed light flash. Pretty much everything I own. lol

Feedback

This was a pure fluke. I had no idea this would happen. I was driving along the road and some thin barely-defined clouds started to move in. These clouds started to refract the light in such a way as to create a what I thought was going to be a rainbow, but the bow started the bending the wrong way up into the sky. So I chased this phenomenon until it formed and then I got real excited and snapped about 200 pics before I got to the park where I got a good view of it and an interesting foreground to go along with it. The lighthouse/ beacon is a photographer attraction on its own as one can see by the footprints. But I was the only one there getting this shot. so lucky...
