Location
Taken in Marysville victoria Australia a few months after the devestating bushfires that tore through this small community.Time
Just outside of the township is a great little tourist road that leads through the forest and past several small waterways and waterfalls. I drove the length of the road waiting for the rain to stop before finally stopping at this spot just as the rain eased.Lighting
With a long exposure such as this the dull rainy day suited perfectly.Equipment
Shot with a canon 5d mkii 28-105 l lens on a tripod sunk in the mud and balamced on a rock with an umbrella overhead to try to minimise rain spots. Also used a nd 400 for the extra exposure length.Inspiration
I had just purchased a nd 400 filter and as i was away in Marysville i really wanted to try it out on some waterways. We had just experienced about 4 days of heavy rain so knew my chances were good.Editing
Run through light room with some simple adjustments to shadows and highlights. Dropped the blacks slightly for more contrast and bumped up the greens and finnished with a slight sharpen. In my camera bag
I alwaus seem to carry too much. But my canon 5d mkii with the trusty 28-105 l lens is alwaus with me. I usally also have my 12-24 sigma dg lens as well as a canon 70-200 f4 lens. The mamfrotto tripod is usally lurking somewhere in amongst everything too.Feedback
Be prepared to be patient and experiment. Dont be afraid to use f16 and black glass like an nd 400 and really push your exposure times out there for creative results. And make sure ypu have a study tripod suitably planted on the ground. A willimg umbrealla assistant can help also!!
