I took this photo right outside my dining room, through the patio doors. Not very exciting, but I love watching the birds that come to my feeder, and this one seemed to be posing for me!Time
I was having a game of Scrabble and lunch with a friend, a weekly tradition, when this finch came and perched on the feeder tray outside the window. My camera is always at the ready wherever I am, so I was able to snap the shot before he flew away.Lighting
Nothing in particular. Natural sunlight is my favorite lighting.Equipment
I had a Nikon P600 at the time, which has a great zoom. I was able to get up close and personal with the zoom. The photo was handheld, no flash or other equipment.Inspiration
Just my love of birds and my desire to capture them in photos.Editing
I often slightly underexpose my photos in order to not lose any details. In post-processing I adjust the exposure on the photo. I also sharpen up the details when needed. I honestly cannot remember what I may have needed to do with this photo. I do know I cropped out some extraneous background. In my camera bag
I am a simple, retired older woman who does not have the patience or organizational skills to do anything fancy with my camera or equipment. I usually just have my camera (currently a Nikon B700) and extra batteries. I keep a tripod in my car, but rarely use it.Feedback
The main thing I recommend is to always have your camera at the ready. One never knows when a beautiful bird will fly into view and perch outside the window!! :-) Seriously, though, many photos are not planned ahead of time, so always be alert to the opportunities and be ready.
