Love the way the reflection of snow makes it look blue.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in rural Bayfield County, Wisconsin. I actually took this picture through my open car window, as this scene popped out at me when I was driving by. I had to back up to get the pic.

Time

This was in the later afternoon when the sun was casting clear shadows on the pristine snow.

Lighting

I was so struck by the way the lighting created this checkerboard shadow from the fence.

Equipment

I used a Nikon B700, no tripod.

Inspiration

It just caught my eye as I was driving by. I often go out on drives, not knowing what I will see, while trying to capture what is unique.

Editing

I often under-expose my photos so that I have wiggle-room to catch every detail. Then in post-processing I just straighten the landscape and adjust the exposure. I'm not an expert in camera settings, so I do the best I can.

In my camera bag

I always keep my tripod in my car with me when I go out. I carry just my camera and fresh batteries.

Feedback

Going out when the sun is casting late-day shadows is my favorite time to go out. Keep your eyes peeled for interesting shadows, and -- voila!!
