Location
This photo was taken just down the road from where I live, in the small town of Paducah, Kentucky.Time
This photo was taken on February 16, at 11:10 am. I'm usually not one to go out in the snow, but my dog, Maddie, begged me to take her out in it.Lighting
Snow makes everything bright and beautiful, so the lighting was perfect. It's rather difficult to not take a good photo in the snow.Equipment
This photo was taken with my Nikon D7100, using a standard 18-135mm lens. To protect my camera from the snow, I put it in a zip lock bag with the lens sticking out of a small hole I cut in the bag. It's an efficient and cheap way to keep your camera safe from light condensation.Inspiration
The possibilities are endless when taking pictures in the snow. Paducah doesn't get much snow, so I felt the need to take advantage of this opportunity.Editing
I usually adjust the white balance, shadows, brightness, and clarity in every photo. Any further processing is done in the iPhone app "Mextures". It's a great app for adding an artsy feel to photos. In my camera bag
My Lowepro flipside 300 backpack fits all of my essential equipment, being a Nikon D7100 body, 50mm lens, 18-135mm lens, external flash, Black Rapid sling strap, tripod, and polarizing lens filters. The backpack is roomy and water resistant, making it great for hiking.Feedback
Always be ready and alert to your surroundings. You never know what you'll see from a distance or up close, especially when it comes to nature photography. Lastly, have patience and never force a picture. If it looks right, then it will probably look good as a photograph.
