Photo was taken on a Maui beech. The Hawaiian Monk seal is an endangered species due to long gestation period and sharks. They swim for days and then crash hard on the beech for about 24 hours before slipping back into the water. They are about 8' long. Because they do not mind landing on busy beeches, volunteers from a local environmental organization stand watch to keep people from invading their space.
