According to the calendar, there's less than a month of winter left! Realizing that, I traveled to Dry Falls in Highlands, NC, on a whim this past weekend to look for more winter pictures, since the weather (erroneously) predicted more snow. Though the snow didn't come, old snowfall and mounds of ice persisted underneath and around the falls.
I left my place in Atlanta at 3:45 AM, arriving at Dry Falls about an hour before sunrise. Thankfully, North Carolina and Georgia departments of transportation had done a great job at salting the roads, which made travel relatively easy.
The first shot is a classic perspective on Dry Falls, shot from the main walkway. Since the barren landscape lacked interesting color, I then used the telephoto lens to segment out what I thought was most interesting - the veil of ice and water, with the frozen walkway behind.

Lovely shot of the frozen over Dry Falls. I love this water fall as it never seems to give you a beautiful view. As long as you can beat the crowds there or last longer than they do... lool
