I was fortunate enough to be in Great Smoky Mountains NP during the recent record-breaking snowfall. It's great when weather and plans actually align! I doubt it's very often that low-elevation snow falls coincide nicely with peak leaf season, either. The snow accumulations along the Tremont Road varied incredibly, from maybe an inch at the Institute to maybe 4 inches at the road terminus (there really isn't that much elevation distance between the two locations). I hoped to find good snowfall at Spruce Flats Falls, but to no avail; so, I drove up the road instead to find some snow.
Unfortunately, they pretty much shut down the park after this (maybe for good reason, with all the falling trees). I was hoping for a walk around Cades Cove in the snow, but I guess it wasn't meant to be!

I especially love the contrast of the warm, colored leaves and snow...beautiful!
