I took this photo at one of my friend's home in Ft. Myers Florida. This person had a beautiful Water Lily garden that he had put together in his backyard. My artist friend managed to get this man's approval to come over and take images of his ponds and water lilies.Time
The image was taken several years ago and from what I remember, sometime around October. It was probably taken in the late afternoon, or early morning where the light is better. Unfortunately, I have lost the metadata on the photograph.Lighting
What I noticed immediately was the way the light was showing on this one Water Lily so I had to get to the right spot to take the image. The light seemed to hit the center of the lily which gave it the beautiful coloring.Equipment
For equipment, I used the first digital camera that I had purchased. It was a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20. I did not use a tripod, or a flash.Inspiration
I love the beauty of a Water Lily and that day, my friends and I went to this man's house specifically to take images of Water Lilies.Editing
I enhanced the colors and eliminated most of the original background and added the black to really bring out the purple on the Water Lily.In my camera bag
When I go on a photo shoot, I have my faithful Canon 60 D camera with an 18 -270 Tamron Zoom. Since I take mostly nature shots, I need a long lens. I have started taking along a tripod and monopod since I recently purchased the new Panasonic Lumix digital camera with the 60x zoom lens and have found that in order to get a sharp image with the new camera, if I am going out to the end of the zoom, I need to at least use a tripod. I just recently purchased the camera, so I am still learning how to use it. I might add, that I also have a small pocket Canon that I carry around at all times.Feedback
If you are using a digital camera, don't be afraid to take a lot of photos of the object. Take the image in different angles like the front, back, low, high, side. I do recommend using a tripod, even though I hate to use one myself. If you can, approach the subject at different times of the day, and different seasons.
