Location
In south eastern Finland, it is some years ago now (2015). I was walking by a lake in early spring and it was still partly frozen, lots of different shapes of ice forming around reeds and on stones.Time
I guess it must have been early afternoon. We had just driven out to the lake for a stroll, but I kept stopping, kneeling down and taking photos, so we did not get to walk very far!Lighting
It was an overcast day, the lighting is just natural light, what there was of it. I had not set out to take pictures, as such, just intended to go for a walk, so I was not carrying any extra lights - and I never use the flash on the camera. I prefer natural light, whenever possible.Equipment
I had my first system camera, Sony A-300 and probably the kit lens (18-70 mm) as well, as I hadn't gotten into buying lots of stuff for my camera yet. I still shoot with Sony, a-mount, just made a small upgrade to A77!Inspiration
Inspiration? No planning, as I have said, just saw this "ice bird" and needed to capture it.Editing
I hardly do any post processing, and at the stage when I took this picture I did not even have Photoshop Elements... Which is what I have got now.In my camera bag
The contents of my camera bag varies depending on if I expect to find something to shoot, or if I just go out on the off-chance. I always carry at least one camera, wherever I go, a pocket or a bridge (both happen to be Panasonic Lumix right now, as I like how versatile they are). My favourite combination is my Sony A77 with a 75-300 zoom, even if it is only 4,5 f. I don't have much money, so I can't afford to have very much equipment. Sometimes I take a monopod, as they are easier to carry than a tripod. I usually shoot things that seldom stand still (birds, butterflies, animals) so a tripod is not much use, anyway.Feedback
Keep your eyes open for surprises, watch the world in frames and just enjoy the beauty of the creation! Most of the time any camera will do - the eye is the important thing!
