Behind The Lens

Location

I lived in a small apartment in Fishers, Indiana and spring had just started. I was sitting in my dining room and looked out the back door and saw this guy stealing from my birdfeeder. I took several shots but this one was my favorite because I thought he looked like he was saying, "Who are you looking at?"

Time

This was taken in the afternoon during early spring. I had just put the birdfeeder up on my back patio and was hoping to attract bluebirds. Earlier in the day, I had seen two cardinals and so I was sitting at the table waiting for them to come back. I was hoping to get a picture of the Cardinals when this guy showed up.

Lighting

I was surprised with the quality of this image as I had to take it through the glass door. I was afraid that if I opened the door to get a clearer shot, he would run away. Mr. Squirrel wasn't more than 12 feet from my door. There was a great shade created by the roof of the patio.

Equipment

Canon Rebel T5i. No tripod, flash or wide lens, just the factory bundle 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I was practicing getting moving wildlife images using my manual settings.

Editing

I used Adobe Elements 9 to enhance the colors and crop the image.

In my camera bag

I only have a Canon T5i with the bundle lens (18-55mm and 75-300mm zoom).

Feedback

With wildlife in particular, you must be patient!
