Behind The Lens

Location

In a friend's studio, which is now, either a block of flats or a carpark...

Time

It was about lunchtime and I loved the light streaming in through the mottled glass window

Lighting

I wanted the light to draw the viewer to her face, expression and then slowly move around the frame

Equipment

Handheld nikon d800e 50 mm 1.8d

Inspiration

Her expression and arm position, we were playing around with moods and emotion, I thought that she looked liked a paperdoll and asked her to emote as if she was one....the model Ashlee is awesome, she started the story, and I saw within the image, the story that I wanted to create, looking / waiting for love with a fragile paper heart.

Editing

As I said the model reminded me of a paper doll, so I treated her as such ...cloning out bits and creating the little heart from her dress, as I did with the paper dolls behind her on the floor.

In my camera bag

I have parkinson's , so within my back is only what I need for a shoot, the Nikon or Fuji X-pro1a lens, 35 mm 1.4 for the fuji or 50mm 1.8 for the Nikon, I used to have a few nice lenses but life go in the way and I had to sell them . I always carry a spare battery, card, and lens cloth. It's not in my bag but lately the tripod has come in handy for those days when the meds aren't working as well as they should

Feedback

Look at what you shoot, think about how the light is hitting your subject and where your eye is getting lead, there are stories to be told ...they are just waiting for us, the photographers/storytellers to find them
