Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph in my friends amazingly natural lit cellar.

Time

Midday - 3pm

Lighting

The lighting in this photograph was all natural thanks to the beautiful window light.

Equipment

Shutter Release Button, Canon 5D MII, 24-105 Lens, Tripod, Chair, Photoshop!

Inspiration

I absolutely love the mysterious look that levitating photographs give, but the thing that inspired me most was the lighting in my friends cellar. It was irresistible to me!

Editing

To take this photograph, I had to arch my back on a small black chair, and take TWO photographs. One with me and the chair, and one with nothing in it. Therefore I could take the empty photograph and edit the contents over where the chair had been.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D MII, 24-105mm, 50mm, 85mm, 135mm, External Flash, CF Cards, Shutter Release,

Feedback

If Photoshop isn't you're key talent, jumping can work just as good in different positions to create this look! However, if you want the more unnatural poses, using chairs and photoshopping them out is the best way to go! Try make sure the chair is thin and doesn't get in the foreground or in the way of your clothing/hands or legs! Arching can be more difficult than you think so try lots of different positions and make sure your subject is flexible enough to move around with ease!
