What a beautiful natural flow this image has. Love the subtle maize tones. Far backround patterns make this composition sing.

Location
This great barn is in Steamboat Springs, CO...we were visiting the area and some family members were skiing. Being new to the area, we were just driving around town and came upon this barn. The way it was sitting on the hill with the mountains behind it made it perfect for a photo opportunity.Time
It was late afternoon, overcast, very still wind...very peaceful and sereneLighting
This lighting I thought was so perfect because of the absence of shadows and harsh lighting. In lighting like this, I've found objects to show their "true" colors so enhancing them with post processing is very effective.Equipment
I was using a Canon 40D and 70-200 F4L. It has been my go-to combo for some time and has given me some beautiful shots. It's great to work with excellent equipment.Inspiration
As we were driving by the barn, you could not help but "see" that there were some great photo possibilities. We turned around and came back and spent some time just enjoying the peaceful, quiet setting. The overcast lighting brought out so much detail that would have been lost with a harsh sun or a darker sky.Editing
I use Photomatix and Aurora because they're so quick and easy to try different effects. I don't go much past the basics in either program so I'm very happy with the results. If you like the added dimension and flexibility that HDR gives you, these programs are awesome. Not so much to make the photos "glow" but they work great to enhance what you've recorded. In my camera bag
I've been using a Canon 40D and 70-200 F4 L for some time and recently upgraded to a Canon 7D MkII and 24-70 F2.8 MkII. What an awesome camera. I shoot kid's sports quite a bit and the 10 fps capability of the camera really helps capture key moments. And it goes without saying, that the 24-70 2.8 is in a different league, it gives you beautiful pictures. For some landscape photos I also have the Canon 10-22 and although not an "L", it produces beautiful shots. I also use a monopod for much of the action shots to help with sharpness.Feedback
I read somewhere that one of the most important factors was to use "good glass". I've stuck with Canon for many years and really believe in using as good a lens as you can. Yes, it does cost more sometimes but I think just handling quality equipment, for me at least, makes a difference in my photography.
