2005-11-06 Fairhope Katrina (004). This is what was left of the 1-4 mile fishing pier with a restaurant at Fairhope, Alabama, on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay. It is almost unthinkable how those waters tore up so much concrete. It was soon repaired and is a favorite spot to spend an afternoon, especially with friends or a camera in the event of a gorgeous sunset. Also, T-storms typically come from the west, and great lightening shots can be captured from the pier, long before the storm crosses the bay. AND...Fairhope has a major July 4 celebration. The pier is closed except to the fire department that drive smaller trucks to the end and put on a major display. What's cool is, at the same time, distant fire works, the big "Palm Tree" plumed bursts, etc are small on the horizon from Mobile south to Tillman's corner or further. This is a great spot.
