South indian road worker resting in the mountain camp in Zanskar on the route from Darcha to Padum. In mountain areas of India the road building process is still pretty primitive. Most of the work is done using hands, hammers and shovels without specialised equipment or heavy machines. People work there in extreme conditions. Many of them are tibetan refugees or Indians from poor southern regions of India.
