Behind The Lens

Location

the photo was taken at a rustic resort in the north woods of Wisconsin. The chair was ahead of the rock outcropping, overlooking the waterfront. This was one of about five shots from the morning that captured the feeling of the location and weather.

Time

the photo was taken midmorning on a balmy autumn day. It was cold, dreary, intermittent rain..........A perfect October day.

Lighting

natural lighting on an overcast day is perfect for this type of shot. The lighting is even -no hot spots. In colour, the skin tones are natural. I typically shoot in black and white, but the gray day and soft skin tones suggested colour.

Equipment

the equipment used was a Nikon D800, f2.8 24-70 ZOOM, shot at f11-1/50sec. ASA100 using a tripod.

Inspiration

I loved the contrast in shapes between the background, chair and model. overriding angularity and roundness. After about an hour or so of shooting, the model struck this pose, thinking of being warm somewhere else.

Editing

minimal manipulation.....If any. post processing is not my forte'.

In my camera bag

2 Nikon bodies. the workhorse lens-24-70zoom, 35 and 85 mm primes and a 10-24zoom.Lastly a sturdy Tripod.

Feedback

integrating the nude in landscape, exposure and depth of field are critical. most important is what you want the viewer to see. My favorite guidepost is a quote by Proust -"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes".
