Behind The Lens

Location

I was in Costa Rica when I took this photo.

Time

After just having finished lunch at a lovely little restaurant, I walked id out on the deck where I saw a group of humming birds fluttering about the flowers. Just happened to catch this shot as the bee also hovered nearby.

Lighting

I'd like to say that I planned the lighting, but it just happened to be such that the metallic sheen of the hummingbird, the flower and the bee shown beautifully.

Equipment

When I travel, I usually carry two bridge cameras, one for backup. They save on weight, and I don't have to worry about having the right lens on the camera when I'm shooting wildlife, as the window of opportunity is usually very short. This was a Nikon Coolpix P520.

Inspiration

This was simply a photo of opportunity, right time, right spot!

Editing

The only post processing on this photo was a bit of cropping.

In my camera bag

Now when traveling I now usually carry either two Nikon Coolpix B700's, or one B700_and my Coolpix P900, lots of backup, charged batteries(especially someplace cold like Antarctica or the Arctic), extra sd cards( I don't like to have all my photos on one card in case something happens to it), rain gear for the camera, and occasionally a tripod, depending where I'm going and how much and how far I have to carry it. With wildlife, setting up a tripod is often not an option.

Feedback

My favorite places to travel are those where wildlife is abundant, such as Costa Rica, Equador, Peru, southern African countries, Antarctica, Falklands, South Georgia Island or similar places.
