I took this photo on a trip to Costa Rica. I was staying at a lodge in the jungle when I saw this little fellow on a stem.Time
This was taken midday in an opening of the forest.Lighting
I didn't have time to set this photo up, for fear that the little guy would hop away, so it is just ambient light in the forest opening.Equipment
I was using a bridge camera, a Nikon P510, which I find to be a very useful camera when I am traveling. It is light and versatile and has 42x zoom, without having to change lenses.Inspiration
I had been looking for a red eyed tree frog when I spotted this one, sitting up on a stem, in an open location. I was standing about 25 feet away, but, with the great zoom on the P510, I was able to take a close up without risk of it hopping away.Editing
At the time that I processed this photo, I was only working with Picassa(which is no longer available for Windows 10). Did just a slight crop on the photo, and improved the contrast a bit.In my camera bag
When traveling, I carry a Nikon P600 and a Nikon P900 for backup.....or visa versa. Both are bridge cameras, which I find more useful for traveling. It does not require me to carry a lot of lenses, and weight when I am flying to various locations. The P510 has been retired in favor of the greater magnification of the newer models. When I am photographing closer to home, I use a regular DSLR camera, as I usually have more time and a car to keep the extra lenses stored.Feedback
When doing wildlife photography, I always like to have a camera with a powerful zoom. It allows me to capture the essence of the creature without invading their space and possibly changing their behavior. For me, a small woman, who cannot carry a huge telephoto lens, a bridge camera with great zoom capability is an almost perfect solution. It is light, multi use, and very versatile.
