Location
This photo was taken on the Oregon Coast, at Bandon Beach at sunrise. I started being a serious photographer around1970. I moved from film and darkroom work to using all digital cameras.Time
This image was captured during sunrise, I wanted to incorporate the sea stacks and the morning light as the sun began to rise.Lighting
Arriving before the sun started to rise allowed me to determine the composition that I want to capture. It allowed me to get the images I wanted when the light was at it's best.Equipment
I currently use a Nikon D810 & D800 camera bodies, I used a 24-70 2.8 lens, Gitzo tripod legs, Really Right Stuff B-55 ball head. I was also using Siingh-Ray split neutral density filters.Inspiration
The Oregon coast is beautiful and rugged. I wanted to capture the early morning light with its color reflecting on the sand and back light the sea stacks.Editing
I use Lightroom and Photoshop CC to process my images. In my camera bag
I normally have my 3 staple lens in my bag, 16-35 1.4, 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8 lens. I always have a B+W circular polarize in my bag, plus neutral density filters. I shoot with a tripod and cable release to capture my images. Everything fits nicely into a ThinkTank street walker pro backpack.Feedback
Prepare a head of time for where you want to shoot. Review the weather forecast and be prepared for any situation. I am out before the sun rises and after it sets. I use TPE to plan for where to compose my shoots for sunrise, sunset and where the moon will rise. You miss 100% of the images you don't take! So go out and enjoy nature and have with your camera. It is not about the gear, but knowing how to use what you have to take the best images.
