Beautiful. I live in Colorado, but haven't made up to Maroon Bells yet.

That’s really breathtaking! Going on a journey there has to be a unique experience

Location
This photo was taken at the Maroon Bells near Aspen, Colorado.Time
This was taken during sunrise in the summer months. I wanted to capture the red sunrise against the purple tint of the Maroon Bells.Lighting
I wanted the lighting to add another layer of depth in photo against the subject.Equipment
I used a Canon T2i, with a Tamron 11-16mm lens. I used a tripod and a remote shutter to take 3 bracketed shots. The images were merged in Photoshop later.Inspiration
I was on a road trip with my family around Colorado and I distinctly remember taking the shot from the same location with an old film camera when my family visited there 10 years ago. I wanted to re-capture the moment, hopefully with better photography skills this time.Editing
I merged 3 photos in Photoshop. I don't usually like the HDR look, but the dynamic range of the scene was so large, I had to use HDR. Needless to say, I tried to keep it very natural looking. In my camera bag
I usually carry 1 body, 4 lenses of various focal lens (from 11mm to 250mm). I always bring a remote shutter with me just in case I need to take a longer exposure. The rest of my bag is filled with food :P.Feedback
Nature photography is largely about going places few people go to, which usually entails braving the cold and waking up at ungodly hours. If you're motivated, go do it and the results might surprise you. On the technical side, I usually use a small aperture to capture all of the detail in the shot. Then, in post processing, I can darken certain areas if I want to remove some distracting details.
