Behind The Lens

Location

On waikiki beach hawaii

Time

Late afternoon

Lighting

I wanted to show the beauty of this tree and walked around and around it until I could capture the feeling of the setting sun on it.

Equipment

I used a pentax camera with 400 film.

Inspiration

I love finding isolated trees such as this because Iook at them, they almost look alive. It's as if they are reaching out to someone, anyone that will acknowledge that they are a living thing and one that shouldn't be ignored. They once had the beautiful green leaves that shimmered in the sun after a rain. Humans once stopped to have a picnic under their beautiful boughs. Children once raced each to see who could get to the top first. This is what I see and hear in my mindseye when I am fortunate enough to come across these abandoned trees. I can appreciate and love them for the Beauty I can still in them. This is why I take these testaments to what they once we're and what we will be.

Editing

I shadowed it a little but not much when had scanned the original picture and used Picasa editing to assist me.

In my camera bag

I now carry a Nikon coolie L840 (my pentax has developed some serious technical problems). I like the Nikon because of the rapid fire pictures it takes, the 16.0 Megapixels and the 38x optical wide zoom. I also carry my trusty little Panasonic DMC-TZ4 which only has a 10X zoom but I have rarely ever gotten a "bad" picture. It is very reliable.

Feedback

Always look through your mindseye as if you were looking through your camera. I see everything in a frame. When you're walking, driving, etc. kept your peripheral vision alert to anything that might catch your eye. This is how I first saw my lonely banyon, as we were driving past. (I do a lot of U-turns.) Be sure to keep your eyes on the ground as well as up because there is a lot going on there also. Just walking along in a park I have captured some beautiful pictures of tree roots that form unbelieveable works of art.
