Beautiful capture. The textures and colors all work in a nice harmony. :)

Location
The photo was taken at Cape Spear in Newfoundland, Canada. It is considered to be the most easterly point in all of North America. As such the sunrises here before anywhere else in North America.Time
This was taken October 23rd, 2014 at just after 7:00am. This was a right place right time moment for me as we were just visiting there for a couple days and a local friend ran us out there as it is a must see.Lighting
Lighting was as nature intended. Just had to move the ISO and the shutter speed around till I was able to get the right exposure. Camera was hand held so a long shutter was not an option for this capture.Equipment
As we were travelling and didn't know we would have an opportunity like this I just had the camera and kit lens with me. Camera is a Pentax K-50, Lens was Pentax DA-L 18-55mm. Had I known a tripod would have made the trip with us.Inspiration
I could not pass up the contrast in colors from the deep red to the bright yellows. The texture of the clouds add so much depth to the experience. It creates such a story for me as for the significance of the location and the company we were with. I know I will probably never have an opportunity for this shot again.Editing
Yes but very little. Just moved bumped the exposure up one notch to bring up the brightness. Editing was done in Lightroom 5.In my camera bag
This all depends on where I am going and the reason I am going. Pentax K-50, Pentax DA-L 18-55mm AL WR, Pentax SMC DA 55-300mm, Pentax SMC 55mm 1.7, Basic Optex Tripod, Cannon XSi with 18-55mm Kit Lens, Spare batteries for both.Feedback
When travelling ask the locals about area photo opportunities. Chances are they might give you insight to locations that are off the beaten path and best times to be there. For a sunrises where possible bring a tripod to allow the lower ISO to be set for lower noise and the slow shutter to get the right exposure for the lower ISO. Use a smaller aperture to allow for a large field of view so shades off the water are nice and clear adding to the texture. I can only comment on my personal impression. The best advise I have ever got is keep the settings on manual and move the settings around till you get the image that is striking to you! Its your photo, you have to be happy with the capture.
