Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken on a side walk restaurant in Paris during our two day vacation there back in 2013

Time

Around 1 pm so the light was obviously not ideal.

Lighting

We were in a shaded area so the light was pretty awesome. But my white balance was off, the sun was reflecting right into my cameras lcd so I literally couldn't see what the pictures looked like.

Equipment

Canon t2i with a 50mm 1.4.

Inspiration

We were sitting there munching on our burgers and it hit me. We're in freaking Paris! It seems so surreal to me that I was actually doing something I dreamed of as a kid. I never thought in my life I would ever get to visit this place. I remember sitting there looking at Madelin and just feeling so elated with joy. She looked the same. That's when I felt like I needed to take a photo to remember that moment.

Editing

Yes. And actually it was pretty elaborate. I created a two image comp HDR. First I processed the one image and blew it out completely. Saving a couple of details on her face. The second image I brought the exsposure down a good amount and then did a HDR merge in Lightroom. And did a few more final adjustments. That's why her face is so bright. Oh I also put two small radial filters on her eyes to bring out the natural color.

In my camera bag

While traveling just my canon t2i, a 50 mm prime and a 18-135.

Feedback

As a photographer there is nothing more important than being in the moment and not constantly looking for a photo op. And if you find you are absolutely loving that moment that's when you capture it. Other wise it's uninspired, and just another photo for Instagram. Take a picture that captures the moment.
