In my living room :) ***The watermark is from my old company - before I would want it submitted I would like the opportunity to resubmit the image with my new watermark on it. I was the victim of a very malicious hacker who stole my old company***Time
Midday in the Autumn months a few years back now.Lighting
I use natural light for all of my indoor portrait work, unless I am shooting newborns in the customers home to which I use a AB400 and the 84 inch PLM from Buff. I just took the picture so that I knew it would be technically correct from CR knowing that I would create something later in Photoshop that reflected my tastes.Equipment
Just a Nikon D800, Nikkor 24-70mm lens.Inspiration
THE DRESS!!! When the Canadian/US exchange was better I began building a dress bank for my customers to rent dresses for sessions. This dress came with the beautiful cape and I had to shoot it - both for advertising and because it was just so beautiful on my daughter. She is very classic looking and it was a beautiful match as they both bring out the beauty in what was captured.Editing
YES! This image was just shot against a plain grey background and in post I really cleaned it up, added the tones and emphasized her beautiful skin. As well I added the beautiful glitter overlay that went along perfectly that she to me looks like a heavenly angel. In my camera bag
I have all sorts of awesome jazz in my Jill-E rolling bag! I carry both my Nikon D700 and D800, as well as a Nikkor 24-70mm, Nikkor 70-200mm, Nikkor 50mm, Sigma Art 35mm as well as my Nikkor 105mm. Along with it I also have Len's Pens to keep the finger prints off of the lens' (harder when you have a six year old very interested in your equipment as well as ALMOST 4 year old triplets), business cards, two pocket wizards, a collection of CF Cards and a few dollars in cash - because its hard to pay for vending machine snacks at weddings without coin - though I just finished up my very last wedding to concentrate on the genre that makes me happy.Feedback
If your wanting to create an image like this I must stress that you MUST learn to take a good technical image. It is extremely important and if you cannot do that, then don't try this - work on the very basics first. If you can take a good technical image, then you have to start deconstructing the image and decide what you like the most about it. Do you like the style, wardrobe, the aesthetics of the child (let's face it - lots of very popular child photographers are often judged on the beauty of the child when someone likes a photo rather then the actual skills used to take the image), lighting, etc. If there is something really important you love - invest in it, like fancy dresses, hiring a professional child model, the overlays or just the desire to learn photoshop better - invest in the education. I am quite confident in saying that none of the images I produce on a regular basis do have a price tag attached to them when I am photographing a creative session and if your wanting the look, be prepared to invest a few dollars to set it apart from all the other work out there. You will love the result!
