Behind The Lens

Location

on the Douro River, in Portugal on a river boat cruise, it was on a Friday and the cruising was calm, serene and just beautiful, we were on the upper deck looking for photo-ops amd this presented itself

Time

about 10AM on the river with beautiful blue skies, just about a picture perfect situation

Lighting

really wasn't looking for anything special, just for a good shot, had just started re-shooting with digital after finishing with film, and an absence of years since I had done a lot of photography

Equipment

recently acquired Pentax Optio S5i version 1.0, as a starter digital to get accustomed to changing from film to digital basically a point & shoot, no tripod or flash

Inspiration

was looking for 'good' shots of the scenery [both the river and what was on the banks/sides] when this presented itself thought it would make a good photo

Editing

some very basic=cropping, color saturation, bightness

In my camera bag

this has changed greatly over time from the Optio went to Fuji, then a Nikon Coolpix, then Canon Rebel t5, currently using Canon Rebel t6 w Tamron 17-270mm lens always carry spare battery, lens cloths, plastic baggie for rain, sometimes extra Canon 18-55mm lens

Feedback

since a lot of my photography is travel shots, recommend that one be prepared for the situation you are going into consider weather, sun, where and how you are going, etc. but most importantly if you are traveling with a tour, etc. be prepared to shot quickly and often I personally don't edit photos until I get home from whatever shoot, find that it disrupts timing
