I visit these falls pretty regular, I have seen hundreds of photo's, none this spectacular. All were good, can't hardly miss at this place. I recognized it immediately. Awesome!

I took this photo at Polouse Falls in Eastern WA.Time
This was taken around 3:30 in the afternoon. My photographer friend and I left in the morning because it is a three and a half hour drive from home. She is the subject in my photo.Lighting
On our way to the falls we were a little disappointed because it was a grey hazy day. I have to remind myself that no matter what kind of weather, there is always a good shot to be taken.Equipment
I used a Nikon D300 a 12mm to 24mm lens on a tripod with electronic shutter release. I also had a Lee .6 gradient soft filter to get detail in the clouds.Inspiration
We came to shoot the Polouse Falls that are very beautiful and amazing. That said, I didn't get to exited about photographing them. You might think that is crazy to drive three and a half hours and not even photograph the subject that everybody has come to shoot. I am always focusing on getting a photograph that is a little different.I went to the Grand Canyon and a friend of mine said what are you doing? You are not photographing the Grand Canyon. I was shooting the opposite way capturing a beautiful rainbow over a snarled tree. I was inspired to take this shot because it gives a great perspective of the vastness of Eastern Washington.Editing
I did a little post processing in Lightroom. I turned down the highlights and turned up the clarity to bring out the clouds. I turned up the vibrancy just a little to give the photo some more color. In my camera bag
Nikon D300, 180mm 2.8, 12mm to 24mm, 60mm, 24mm to 120mm f4, Various ND filters, polarizer filter, electronic shutter release and of course my scratched up beat up tripod.Feedback
I have been taking photos since I was 15. I used to have to be very careful with each and every shot. Film and developing was expensive and I wanted to make every shot count. There were also a lot of shots I would not take. There might be a sign in the scene or some other object the would ruin a picture. That's enough of the good old days. I absolutely love the world of digital photography. It is great that you can take a shot and make adjustments on the fly. The main advice I would give someone trying to capture a similar image is to take many, many shots.I usually take hundreds to thousands of photos in one day. Use a tripod and cable release. I like to use various filters because I like to paint the photo in my camera and spend more time out taking photographs than sitting in my house editing. Although I like doing both. The other advice I would give is shoot what you like and create your own style.
