Looks like a great location, I really feel for places with peeling paint. Has a lot of character this shot, well done

Thank you, It was an abandoned insane asylum near Pittsburgh that was just recently completely torn down and made into an office complex - Fortunately, I got to photograph in all 14 building before construction started.

A great idea to take a selfie in that setting - wonder how many other faces that mirror has seen.

Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in an abandoned asylum near Pittsburgh called "Western Center" - It has since been town down and made into office buildings. This particular picture was taken in the hospital section -

Time

This was taken during Spring time around 10AM - I know this because my friend and I bribed the construction workers to let us photograph in the buildings by bringing them coffee and donuts. This was about an hour after we parked.

Lighting

All natural. Always the best.

Equipment

My very first digital camera - Panasonic Lumix. I absolutely loved this little guy, granted I could never trade my DSLR for a point and shoot now, but at the time I was so proud of the pictures it would take. There are still a few hanging around on my website and in my view bug gallery - I photographed with that camera for years until my ex boyfriend bought me my first Canon DSLR (xsi) for Christmas, then the real adventures began!

Inspiration

A completely empty and paint peeled 15 floor hospital, I must have taken 4,000 pictures that day. Most people like to be in abandoned places for the spook factor. I love it for the colors, the history and the beauty. Photographing places like this is how I started in photography. I would bring a throw away Kodak camera on my adventures, then graduated to a Panasonic Lumix, and finally to a Canon DSLR. This picture means so much to me because this was taken before every picture you see in my gallery, this is when my passion for photography was just a seed, little did I know I would be around the world and have 100,000+ picture under my belt. Amazing.

Editing

I do occasionally, but this picture was not edited in any way, the natural light always helps with that.

In my camera bag

Now I carry a Canon T2i and a Tamron 18-270 lens - This lens is fantastic, Ive used it in pretty much 98% of the pictures you see on my site. I worked at Ritz Camera for 5 years through college and a bit afterwards, and even though I sold (and taught classes about) every camera imaginable Canon is still the camera that makes the most sense to me, the controls and options jive with my thought pattern, and that makes for quick changes and effortless shots.

You have to take risks, you have to be willing to go that extra mile for a picture. You'll never get an amazing picture if you wait for something to come to you, you have to go get it.
