Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Port Hope. I'm a self-0taught photographer, so every photo is a new experience.

Time

I was at a local marsh area for most of the afternoon, when along came the resident pair of swans with their 7 babies. This little one swan up close to where I was sitting and I captured this image.

Lighting

The lighting wasn't the greatest, so I made the best of a dull lighting situation. The water moved in such a way that the reflection looks as thought the cignet had it's mouth open, giving me two different poses.

Equipment

I was using my husband's Canon EOS REBEL T2i with the kit lens at the time. The camera was hand-held, as all of my work is. No flash.

Inspiration

I love all wildlife, especially the babies. They bring me and others so much joy, which is why I do my best to capture all the precious little moments.

Editing

The photo was cropped and the shadows brought up a touch. No other processing was done.

In my camera bag

Nowadays, I have my trusty Canon 5DM4, Canon 100-400L lens with a 1.4x extender in my bag. I also have a Monfrotto Monopod (use sparingly) and some lens cleaner.

Feedback

Photograph what you are drawn to. If trying to capture a similar photo, make sure water is calm, and hopefully the sun shines for you. You don't need a fast shutter speed either.
