Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at our campsite in Ocala, FL. My husband and I are full-time RVers traveling the country, and my camera is never far from my side. I am self taught and this award has given me a boost of confidence in my abilities as an amateur photographer.

Time

It was approximately 10:00 am when my husband Clyde just came back from his morning ride.

Lighting

He parked the bike perfect for the lighting. The bright morning sun illuminating the chrome and paint of the motorcycle. Casting just enough shadow to give me good depth of field.

Equipment

This was shot with my Canon EOS T3i using a Canon zoom lens EF-S 18-55mm.

Inspiration

It was wintertime in Ocala, so the temperature was about 55° that morning. The skies were cloudless, and the air was fresh and crisp. Clyde looked so handsome and happy that I told him I wanted to take his picture on the motorcycle. He fussed and complained, telling me to hurry up as I laid on the ground taking his portrait. I snapped a couple of quick shots.

Editing

I edited the photo in black and white with high contrast. The high contrast soften the background of woods to bring out more of the subject.

In my camera bag

Other than my Canon Rebel, I carry my two lenses. The 18-55 mm zoom and the 55-250 mm zoom. I'm currently saving up for my first macro lens.

Feedback

The only advice I can give is that if something inspires you, even with an uncooperative subject, quickly get the shot. If it doesn't turn out as expected you will never regret that you didn't try.
