Like AlanC explained it is a natural formation. In this case it is a Stalagmite because it forms from the ground to the top. Stalactites form from the top to the grownd in calcareous or lime stone caves infiltrated by water that slowly dissolves the calcium carbonate and produces these magnificent natural formations that can thousands of years to form and some of them even connect, that is a Stalagmite forming from the ground ends up uniting it self with a stalactite forming at the same position from the top or cave ceiling thus creating a natural pillar.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was shot at Gardens by the Bay permanent exhibition of stalagmite and stalactite. They is the actual mineral found in the stones and not replica.

Time

It was taken in the exhibition hall in the late morning.

Lighting

The natural lighting is from the architectural 'holes' in the wall. The exhibit is inside the Fall hall, the Lost Wonder on level 2.

Equipment

No specific equipment, just my favourite camera, my Sony a7M2 with a small Fujifilm EF-20 pocket flash. Len is a multi-usage 24-240mm.

Inspiration

The garden is usually filled with many people but because it was a work day for many, its less crowded and i have the opportunity to shot at my leisure and refine my skills.

Editing

Only slight brightening, colour correction and refining.

In my camera bag

Now I carry my favourite camera, the Sony a7M2 everywhere for all my shoot. Its reliable and trustworthy and easy to use. Fitted with 24-240mm lens, I can shoot almost anything.

Feedback

Shoot what you see or regret forever. Capture the memory or the moment of time wherever you are. Keep shooting till you are there, on top of your skills.
