Behind The Lens

Location

This is a little stream in central Oregon. It does not even have a name.. For Oregon it is insignificant it seems. I was walking to another "named" falls and came across this . It captured me before I could even set up my camera,.. This image is really about me. About how I see the world. A small insignificant stream and it has a huge voice.. It was hanging in the gallery of the San Diego Museum of Natural History...

Time

this was late afternoon. On a cloudy day. Flat light but the white of the rushing water kept from blowing out during a long exposure..

Lighting

The forests of central Oregon provide a excellent setting for a long exposure capture. This is a 30 second capture using a 10 stop ND filter from Singh-ray...

Equipment

This is my Canon 5dmk3 mounted on a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod.. Using a 24x70 f2.8 lens and a 10 stop ND Singh-Ray filter..

Inspiration

The river was cascading down a mountain side and I was walking up hill on a very steep path. I was trekking to another falls and just stopped to catch my breath. At that moment bI knew I had to have this capture. I took 5 images here.. Such a beautiful nature that surrounds us...

Editing

Slight color enhancement from a RAW file and a small crop. Otherwise a very natural capture..

In my camera bag

I carry a canon 5dmk3 with a 24x70 f2.8 ;lens on one arm and a Canon 7d with a 70x200 f2.8 lens on my other arm.. On my back is the pack with all of the accessories.. Including gloves and rain ponchos! ..lol

Feedback

Practice.. Ask questions from other photographers. These long exposure captures are not hard to achieve but they require a different way of "looking" at nature. .. dennis
