Location
This photo was captured in a little out of the way corner of North -east Utah. Near "Lost Creek ".Time
This was a long exposure using only one image .About midnight in early summer..Lighting
The moon had set early and I waited till the residual glow from that moon had all but disappeared. The night was dark and I hand painted the hose lightly using a yellow flashlight beam.Equipment
This was my Canon 5d using a 17x40 f4 "l" lens. Tripod is a Manfrotto Carbon Fiber 190 model using the old fashioned twin handle head. I used a Canon intervoltometer switch set for 30 minutes. No filters or any other special equipment here.Just a warm jacket and a lot of patience..Inspiration
I love the "star trail" images I had seen in galleries and around the net. This was one of mine after many failed attempts..Editing
Not much post processing on this image.I converted a RAW file to a jpeg for ViewBug and did a little sharpening after that conversion. Otherwise this is a pure image. In my camera bag
I carry a Canon 5d mk3 with a 24x70 f-2,8 lens ..I also carry a Canon 7d with a 70x200 f2,8 lens .. In the bag is a 16x35 f2,8 and a 17x40 f4 lens. I carry a full set of ND filters including a 15 stop Singh-ray BIG stop. Otherwise pretty much the usual assortment of cleaning tools and polarizers, batteries and flash guns..And flashlights with yellow and white light..Feedback
Be patient!!! remember that composition is completely different at night. Scope out your target image in the day and learn where Polaris star is (the North star) It is the one star that does not spin.Everything else revolves around that..
