Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photograph at a local park festival event. It was part of a Vintage car day believe it or not.

Time

It was taken mid morning and under a Marquis tent.

Lighting

It was quite difficult to take as there was a lot of people about and also the bird was tethered and inside a Marquis tent. It was taken with a high aperture to create light.

Equipment

Taken hand held with a Pentax K-x DSLR with an 18-55mm lens, No flash, 100 ISO, 1/60s, F5.6

Inspiration

I love all animals but I had previously seen these birds quite a few years ago in Cape Canaveral Florida and thought they were quite Prehistoric looking birds, very majestic yet very scary looking also. They have an amazing look about them. I didn't think I would ever be able to get this close to a Vulture and capture such a face on shot.

Editing

I normally look at the image and decide it if needs any foreign elements cropped out or the colour contrast enhanced, however this photograph was just right and didn't need any re-touching.

In my camera bag

I always carry my 18-55mm, 80-200mm and my macro stack lenses in my camera bag. Along with cloths, some filters and my remote shutter release device for any night photography shots.

Feedback

Ensure that you are patient and exclude any foreign elements, focus on your subject and the specific angles you require. Make sure that your subject is well lit with the colours and textures clear. Wait until you have the steadiness or motion in your image that you require.
