This photo was taken on the grounds of Oatlands Plantation in beautiful Loudon County, VA. Oatlands Plantation is dated back to 1803 and is on the register of National Historic Places. I cant wait to go back now that I have more experience.Time
This image is one of the first photos I took that really got me hooked on photography. It was a very hot and humid late morning in July 2013. If you have been in the DC metro area in July then you know :-)Lighting
The lighting was nothing really. It was just an overcast day which provided a nice soft light on the tree.Equipment
This photo was shot with a camera that my wife had passed on to me. It was shot with a Canon PowerShot S5. I did not use a tripod as I was laying on my back under the tree.Inspiration
What inspired me to take this photo? I love trees. My late father was a man of the woods and loved tree he could talk about them for hours on end. So my love for the woods was already in my genes before I even knew. This tree in particular is beautiful to me because of the branches reaching out towards the sun in every possible way. The way they twist and gnarl I thought was stunning.Editing
I did a small amount of post processing. This was before I had learned about lightroom and just used some stock software that was already on my PC.In my camera bag
My camera as of right now is the Canon T5i. I am still fairly new to photography and on a budget. For lenses I carry the 18-55, and depending on where I am headed I switch between the 10-18 and 55-250. I also keep ND Filters and a circular polarizer in my gag along with a Mefoto Tripod. Miscellaneous items are: lens cloth, multi tool, bugspray, flashlight and a bandanna.Feedback
Really the best thing I find for photographing trees is to get low or use them in them in the foreground. Dappled light or sunbeams shining through the trees is always nice.
