I took this photo while my dog was bathing in a patch of sun on the lounge floor. It was a fun project in Photoshop to remove everything and hand touch all the highlights.Time
The image was captured at around 2 in the afternoon when all the animals gathered to sunbathe and sleep.Lighting
The strong sun-patches at that time of the day gave me the perfect amount of light to avoid the need for artificial lighting to be added.Equipment
I took it using my old Nikon d3200. There was no other equipment needed, just me laying on the floor disturbing the dogs' napping time with a lens in his face.Inspiration
I have always enjoyed taking pictures of my pets for future posterity. Max has sadly passed on now, but these images help to remind me of those little things that are easily forgotten over time.Editing
I used Photoshop to remove the room and then added highlights and lowlights by hand using a simple brush tool. The hardest part, which I didn't do very well, was feathering out the edges to make it appear more natural in its black setting. In my camera bag
My camera bag normally contains my D5700, 200mm lens, 300mm lens, 18-55mm lens, lens hoods, filter set, flash-gun and my trusty Manfrotto tripod. If I didn't have such a bad back I would probably carry all my kit around....just in case :DFeedback
Use strong natural light. Try to get the light from a good angle that creates nice natural shadows and strong detail. When post-processing, try not to add too much and make it feel a bit cartoon-like. All in all, patience!
