I got the chance to catch this shot during a day out with my kids to a local farm.Time
It had been long day of petting animals and various play areas and as a result we were all very tired. It was around 4pm and my daughter was just about exhausted. Despite being tired she was determined to conquer her fear of this wobbly wooden bridge and had made several attempts trying everything from crawling to running, but she was still a little frightened by the wobbling and the noise I think. She assumed the pose in the picture still cranky she was getting scared. At that moment she spotted me with my camera pointed straight at her and flashed me that beautifully sulky look in the photo. I just love the way she wears her heart on her sleeve and thats what this photo will always remind me of :)Lighting
this was taken in direct sunlight. I like the shadows and reflections of the sun.Equipment
I used my Nikon d3200 handheld with a 55-200mm lens. I was using apeture priority setting with a shutter speed 1/500sec, focal length was 110mm. I had a UV filter on and was using a long lens hood.Inspiration
there was no real inspiration for this photo. It was more about catching my daughters intensity and emotion. She felt as if she had failed because she was still scared after the 6th attempt, I just saw her pushing through her fears and showing a determination I am so proud of.Editing
There was a small amount of post-processing on tis shot. A little softening of the background and a touch of sharpening around her hair. Nothing else really. In my camera bag
I normally carry a few lenses and some filters with my trusty tripod strapped on the back. On the day I took this I had only taken my camera and my 55-200mmm lens, Uv filter already on. The best bit of kit I had is my slidestrap. If you don't have one or haven't seen them, google it, amazing bit of kit.Feedback
I knew when we set out that morning the weather was going to be sunny all day so I decided to take as little as possible. with so much light available my tripod seemed unnecessary and I just wanted to take a versatile lens. It allowed me to point and click, so to speak, without any thought of lens choice etc.
