Location
This photo was taken late one night at home. This is one of my young crested geckos tucking into a mango and repashy mix, all my geckos love mango but it isn't every day we catch them eating. This little girl didn't care about me sticking the lens in her face, she just wanted her food.Time
This was taken at around 1am.Lighting
Lighting is very tough as this species are crepuscular, so they don't like bright light late at night and tend to run off. The only lighting I could set up this quickly was a standar kitchen strip light at about 5' from the subject, which is what you can see reflected in the eyes.Equipment
This was one of those chance moments with no time to set up any equipment. I didn't even have time to grab a tripod which because of the light I really could have done with, but I pushed the iso to help. Make Pentax Camera K-30 Focal Length 50.0 mm Shutter Speed 1/13 sec Aperture F5.6 ISO/Film 1600Inspiration
I photograph all of our reptiles and other peoples whenever I can but this was one of those moments that just had to be caught on film, I had noticed she was a great feeder and very friendly, but had never managed to catch her with a photo. I love to show some personality from the animal which isn't alway easy, but this shows exactly what she is like.Editing
I tend not to do much post production with my photos. Normaly just levels, contrast and saturation, sometimes colour balance if needed. I don't think I had to alter very much at all with this image. In my camera bag
I tend to keep it very simple, camera couple of lenses, it depends on what my sebject is.Feedback
Patcience it took me near enough three years to capture this image. It was only through keeping this animal and knowing her habbits that I had the chance to capture this shot. I guess the best advice I can give was given to me by my photography tutor twenty years ago, and that is 'make sure your camera is with you at all times.'
