Location
I captured this photograph in the remote Panamint Dunes, located in Death Valley National Park in California. I had spotted these dunes from a distance and thought it might be a good idea to spend a day or night out there.Time
This shot was captured just before sunset. The contrast between the illuminated sand and the shadows is what made me shoot this scene.Lighting
Dunes, of course, are all about the lighting. The fine particles of sand have a lot of shadowed hues and low lighting seems to really capture the beauty.Equipment
Nikon D40x, 12-24mm Nikkor lens, a B+W circular polarizer, and a Quantaray tripod.Inspiration
I love the play of light on the sand and watching the shadows grow longer/shorter as the Sun rises/sets.Editing
Very little post-processing was done on this shot. Just some cropping and dust removal as I shot the scene with an F/22 aperture. In my camera bag
When this photograph was made, I carried the Nikon D40x camera, a 12-24mm Nikkor lens, a 28-300mm Nikkor zoom lens, a B+W circular polarizer, and a Quantaray tripod.Feedback
The best advice I can give to anyone wishing to capture beautiful landscapes is to just get out to your favorite wilderness and walk around. The beauty will just leap up at you and all you have to do is be there and click the shutter!!!
