Behind The Lens

Location

The paths around the historic village of Llanwonno near Pontypridd in South Wales, UK. As a newbie photographer with exactly no idea what I was doing, I crammed every one of the lenses I had into my rucksack and started out, soon realising that really I didn't need the tripod as well, or two types of zoom lens and honestly in a forest was the landscape lens going to be that useful, and did I need two bottles of water and yet no spare battery. I walked five miles that day as we got completely lost, finally deciding to ask someone when we were about 200 yards from the car. Also, there are no loos there. It's pretty though!

Time

I'm not really an early riser (except tomorrow when I have to get up for the Moto GP at 5am eeeek!) we got there at around lunchtime, and trudged around until probably 6pm but a lot of that was trying to find our way back to the car park...

Lighting

Nature really did everything bless it, as it could see I had no idea... the day was bright, misty and sort of perfect.

Equipment

A sony A35 with a sony 18-55 and a friend's shoulder (shinytreats - she's very good and helped me to frame this shot)

Inspiration

It was the colours greens, reds golds, and the tranquility of the forest - I had no hope of capturing it but had to try!

Editing

For me raw is still something you don't want in a chicken - however I have lightroom and used it, would have been rude not to, to process the image and make it more like the scene I remembered - TGF Lightroom!!

In my camera bag

Lots of pre-loved but still good kit! Sony and minolta lenses, I like to take everything because I just don't know enough not to! Stopping on the way home to try and capture a Red Kite seemed reason enough to take the tele-zoom (didn't get it though as it decided to rain RIGHT then!!!)

Feedback

The overhanging trees made for a brilliant frame, and I learned a lot from my mate that day. As for the rest it was all nature's work. There is a lovely waterfall there and lots of pretty walks, hope to go back next summer.
