Location
This photo was taken in Belgium, in the forest nearby my house, during fall.Time
I taken it in the middle on the afternoon, which is certainly not the best time of the day, but I took it during a walk that wasn't especially dedicated to photography. I had just my camera with me, just in case.Lighting
Concerning the lighting, it's full natural light. It's was a gray cloudy day, like we have tons in Belgium. The forest was a bit dark (exif are 24mm, f/4, 1/10) and I see some rays of light hitting this tree just where there was a lot of green moss. It create a great contrast, between the tree bark and the moss and make the green popsEquipment
This picture is handheld. I used a Nikon D700 with a 24-120 f/4. As I need to go down at 1/10, I use the tree as a tripod to be as stable as possible and compose the picture to emphase the tree as much as possible with the use of the 24mm.Inspiration
There a 2 things: the color of the moss with the light hitting it. As the envirronement was a little bit dark, this color was like a flash, you couldn't miss the green flash. The second thing is the tree itself. It looks like it's 3 trees in one, it creates nice lines and lead the eyes to the green moss and to the big branches at the top. You feel so small and the nature so powerfull.Editing
There is not a lot of thing in the post-processing. The main problem of thus photo was the sky: even if was gray, it was very luminous. And I exposed for the moss, the sky was to bright, I had to decrease his luminosity. For the rest, it was a normal Lightroom process with some minor local ajustment. In my camera bag
It's depends: this day, I had just the camera and the lens. Photography was not the main purpose of this walk. When I go for landscape photography, I usually have my camera, 2 lenses (24-120 and 70-200), a tripod, 2 ND and a polarizing filters.Feedback
My advice to take shoot like this is very simple: be aware of what happens around you, look where people don't normally look and see the light in a way that people who are not familiar whith photography won't see it.
